Slippery when not wet

At the risk of multiple posts talkin' 'bout the weather, yesterday felt like a bit of a heat wave, with a high forecast in the 40s. I never confirmed that, by midday, I was comfortable riding in two wool layers and my hi-vis jacket open and flapping in the breeze. That was on my way home from Northampton on the Norwattuck Trail, which I was pleased to see was already clear of the previous night's snow for my trip in at 9AM.

I'm happy to see the DCR's speedy plowing, as that decreases the amount of packing by early trail users, which leads to less ice. Seeing as I still haven't followed through on actually mounting the studded tires I have, less ice is something I can appreciate, and it seems that sentiment is shared by someone in Northampton with a can of spray paint.

I did perform some censoring of that photo, which reminds me of recent invitation to our local trail running group to help in testing "d*ck lights", which I learned is a euphemism for waist mounted illumination. It seems, however, at least in the moment, I had a less corrupt mind than I'd thought. I read "deck lights". My next guess was "duck". I did eventually figure it out, but continued the theme, explaining to someone else who asked what they were, "They're for helping guide a boat into the slip at night."

Oh well, the temps are predicted to head back to producing hard water, so prepare for a little slip and slide, but hopefully we manage to keep it rubber side down, and humane.
