A half glass of snow

Ok, that allusion to glass half full or empty doesn't quite suit this context, but I haven't thought of a title I like better, so I stuck you with it. It snowed again this morning! It was at most two inches, so an easy shovel of my path out to the road, be with that chore becoming regular, I wondered if it would be easier to attend to a single heavy snow fall versus the current trend of repeated light dustings.

My 700 foot access
has me clearing the snow volume
of only a 200 foot driveway.
I am semi social enough
to clear a parking spot at the end.

Like so much, context is key. If someone has physical limitations which cause concern about lifting a a heavy shovel, a series of lighter loads seems the obvious safe option. Likewise, for cross country skiing, repeated dustings makes for good fresh snow conditions without the slog of breaking a path through heavy depth. On the other hand, for getting about by bike, the succession of snow serves to soak the road surface while the side left for bikes slims progressively skinnier. For running trails, I'll also give the win to a single big dump as then the probability of good snowmobile packing increases.

So arguably, it is like that glass of water, a matter of perspective. Which is best? I guess I can, and will, be selective and opt for the view point that suits the situation, but really, I won't mind when it all melts. In the sage words of my running friend Brian, whom I honor as possibly a grumpier old man than myself, despite five fewer laps round the sun, "I just want dirt!"
