I acclimated

Tomorrow is the first day of spring, and I'm ready. That was confirmed yesterday when the thermometer read 20° as I left the house early to run on the way to a few appointments. Unlike a month ago, twenty degrees felt cold, really cold. Luckily, it was an only fifteen minute ride, uphill, to where I started running, and for heat generation, running is topped only by cross country skiing and shoveling snow.

The temperature was also increasing, so after a half hour, I was running in a single layer, even flipping back the tips of my hinged mittens, which I've discovered are pretty darn awesome. Yes, of course, they were a roadside find! But the temperature increased not all that much, and the highest I saw on a thermometer was right at the freezing point. Brr, in addition to twice submerging in the brook last week, I definitely acclimated to the 60 to 70 degree temperatures.

Oh well, I can acclimate in both directions. More reason to look forward to tomorrow's official arrival of spring: yesterday I rode my errands on a bike with more than one gear for the first time since the solstice. With the exception of a couple mountain bike rides off the salty roads, I've been opting for a single speed with a lot less drivetrain to abuse. You can't damage what isn't there, but hey, shifters are rather cool, and not just the old friction ones labeled: Suntour.
Ahh, happy knees!
